Statistics 401 Mod 4 Case - Regression Analysis Coursework
Statistics 401 Mod 4 Case - Regression Analysis - Coursework Example In some cases, the scattered plotted points do form a pattern that resembles a straight line. These points all scatter around single straight line which is termed as the line of best fit. On drawing the line of best fit, it has a linear equation of the form y= mx + c. The equation can be used to predict the corresponding values of the X- variables or the Y- variable given the values of the Y- variables or the X- variables respectively. I inserted the data in the excel file in an effort to compute a scatter plot. By so doing, I made X to be the interest rate expressed as a decimal (e.g., 5% = 0.05). At the same time, I made Y to be the Housing Starts. This led to a scatter plot as shown in the graph below. It The regression equation that I computed as shown in the graph is:- y = 13357x ââ¬â 12607 This is a linear equation or an equation of the straight line. The equation does indeed have the form Y = m*X + B, were Y is the number of starts, and B is the regression constant.à B i s the hypothetical value of Y when X = 0.à In accordance to the nature of this problem, It sure does make a practical sense. The equation is very useful in making predictions of the corresponding values of the variables given the other corresponding piece. ... The fact that the scatter plot so formed has a line of best fit with a linear equation confirms that indeed there is a relationship between the Housing stats and the interest rates. Given one of the values, the corresponding value can be easily predicted using the shared relationship. I Used the regression equation found above to calculateà what the approximate number of housing starts would be at the following interest rates: 8.5%, 4.5%, 3.7%, 2.3%. This is sown in the computations below.à I understood perfectly that I would not simply "guess" values, based on the historical data that was given.à That is clearly wrong. I also understood that I ought not have used linear interpolation between the historical data values;à that's also wrong. I saw to it that I rounded off estimates of starts to the nearest whole number.à This is because a house-building project either starts in a given month, or it doesn't.à Therefore, it makes no sense to talk about fractions of a start . X= 8.5 = 0.0885 y = 13357x - 12607 =(13357*8.85) ââ¬â 12607 = 105602.45 = 105602 X= 4.5 = 0.045 y = 13357x ââ¬â 12607 =(13357*4.5) ââ¬â 12607 = 47499.5 = 47499 X= 3.7 = 0.037 y = 13357x - 12607 =(13357*3.7) ââ¬â 12607 = 36813.9= 36813 X= 2.3 = 0.023 y = 13357x - 12607 =(13357*2.3) ââ¬â 12607 = 18114.1 = 18114 If I were the owner of a business in the housing construction sector and I knew how interest rates were likely to change, I would use this information very effectively to make better decisions. The housing construction sector is a business venture where the risks involved are rather very huge. It involves the investment of a lot of money and this puts the investor in a lot of danger of losing a large sum of money all at once. This calls for a proper

Product channeling - Essay Example These systems can be integrated vertically or as separate, independent entities. Insurance distribution can be found using any or all of these methods collectively. The ability to navigate distribution channels would require understanding of optimal timing. "Choosing the right channel for the life cycle stage of the product can have a dramatic impact on sales, and often it determines the success or failure of any new or existing product." (Combs, L. S.; The Right Channel at the Right Time; Industrial Management; 46(4); July -August 2004) But in essence, there are many methods toward choosing either a singular channel or multiple channels for distribution purposes, especially in the world of insurance. "The proliferation of disconnected distribution channels is a product of the competitive nature of the insurance industry." (Toth, W.; Navigating Distribution Channels; Insurance & Technology, 30(7), S6-S8; 2005) This alone speaks volumes in the realm of the life cycle considered to be prominent in insurance sales, that during peak times the effectiveness of disconnected distribution channels, or independent distributors or contractors, would in f act be of benefit toward the industry. The most effective channels for insurance would have to be independent marketing organizations for two reasons; this gives the co

Discussion Board (1) - Essay Example As a network, what one entity does in regards to criminal justice will affect all. Considering these definitions, the American criminal justice system is best defined as a process because: 1) there are distinctions among entities in criminal justice infrastructure, 2) actions of one agency are not interdependent upon another and 3) cooperation among agencies eliminates identification as a non-system. The American criminal justice system works through a variety of avenues. How things are implemented specifically ââ¬Å"varies from state to state, and the federal criminal justice system has its own rules, procedures, and terms to describe the stages of the proceedingsâ⬠(Bennett, n.d.). Generally, however, things tend to follow a similar pattern. First, an individual reports a crime. This individual can be ââ¬Å"families, neighborhood associations, business, industry, agriculture, educational institutions, the news media, or any other private sector entityâ⬠(ââ¬Å"Criminal Justiceâ⬠, n.d.). From here the law enforcement agency, (usually at a local level at this point), goes through its own procedures for determining if a suspect is guilty and needs to be arrested. If the suspect is arrested, ââ¬Å"then law enforcement agencies present the complaint and information and about the accused to the prosecutor, who will decide if formal charges will be filed with the c ourt (pre-indictment events)â⬠(ââ¬Å"Criminal Justiceâ⬠, n.d.). If charges arenââ¬â¢t dropped, the accused will undergo a bail hearing, which will determine if a suspect will be allowed to attain their freedom while on bond. Then there is the arraignment which ââ¬Å"is the formal presentation of charges in open court and where a judge considers evidence the prosecutor presents to decide whether there is probable cause to support the charges against the defendantâ⬠(ââ¬Å"Criminal Justiceâ⬠, n.d.). What can be done to improve the college graduation rate Essay - 1
What can be done to improve the college graduation rate - Essay Example There are many colleges and universities that have tried to improve their graduation rates and have succeeded in doing so (Davis, 2010). Graduation rate of any country is a reflection of far more than what may seem. The number of college students graduating from a college shows an insight to its accountability and transparency. The graduation rates show a great deal about the college itself and a low number of graduating students may indicate an unsatisfactory performance by the college or it may point towards something faulty within the organization (Sealey-Morris, 2015). The constant increment in the wage given to the students in order to increase the college graduation rate has been unsuccessful in tackling the situation and the increased amount of students enrolled in college courses are not directly proportional to the amount of students graduating from these colleges. The most probable reason behind this decrease in the degree attainment rate may be due to the inappropriate balance within the student body or alterations within this student body. Other possible reasons behind the decrease in graduation rate is t he increased segregation within the education system of the country and the lack of helpful resources for the students within an organization hence, it can be said that the overcrowded college institutions have a lower rate of graduation. Another important reason behind the decrease in the degree attainment rates may be due to the lack of financial resources available for the students, this is because a large number of students are employed in part time jobs while they are enrolled in college and this is to make up with the tuitions and study costs of their study courses (Bound, Lovenheim & Turner, 2010). The first step that can be ensued in order to increase the graduation rate is to increase the equality among

Management accounting - Essay Example BA is flying to over 550 destinations and to 155 countries worldwide including Americas, UK, Europe, Middle East and South Asia, Africa, and Asia/Pacific (ââ¬Å"British Airways,â⬠2010). It has been considered as one of the leader in the airline industry worldwide and known for its excellence, quality, and full air and ground services. Aside from being the largest international scheduled airline in UK, BA offered several services and facilities to their customers to guarantee their convenience. The company has been privatised and shares are traded on the London Stock Exchange (LSE) under the ticker symbol BAY (ââ¬Å"London Stock Exchange,â⬠2011). As history trace its origins back, BA was formed with the mergence of BOAC, BEA, Cambrian Airways, and Northeast Airlines last 1974 (ââ¬Å"British Airways,â⬠n.d.). ... They have decided to merge because of recession that badly hit the operations of the two airlines (BBC News, 2009). The purpose of this paper is to explain how management accounting can supply information to assist the management of British Airways, particularly the key techniques that are favourable to the company. Review of the Nature and Role of Management Accounting Management accounting is an exclusive type of accounting wherein the supplied information is more specific. Furthermore, it ââ¬Å"exists to serve managers helping them work as decision makers, planners, and controllers of their respective departments or areas of responsibilityâ⬠(Atrill & McLaney, 1994, p.14). In other words, the role of management accounting is to assist the managers in making decisions or problem solving, and provide accounting information necessary to make realistic future plans. They are expected to provide financial or economic information particularly available to those in managerial posit ion. These are needed in carrying the tasks of decision-making, planning, and control so that organization will be managed effectively and efficiently. Decision making and planning is one of the crucial tasks played by management accounting. There are instances that the management needs to settle with the best option to be pursued which at the same time favourable to the organization. The determined courses of action will be evaluated as to their costs and benefits which is the role of planning. Furthermore, the information will be more effective if the result of the appraisal showed that the benefits outweigh the costs. Control is the second primary tasked that ââ¬Å"involves a comparison of actual performance with the plan so that
